Red Eagle Community Work Center opened in 1972 and is located on 364 acres approximately three miles north of Montgomery, AL. Red Eagle was the Indian name given to William Weatherford, a noted Indian Leader who was born on a site of the Alabama River near Coosada. His birthplace was very likely on Red Eagle property. Red Eagle’s mission is to provide suitable surroundings, work programs, and staff to assist male inmates to reintegrate into society. The staff strives to be one of the best qualified of any institution in the state. A part-time chaplain supervises religious programs with volunteer groups providing support services. Red Eagle inmates are assigned to jobs at state, city, county, and federal agencies in the Montgomery area. Red Eagle Community Center is classified as a minimum custody facility
